You could always tell Slipknot were relentless just by looking at them. The band emerged out of Iowa in with nine members in red jumpsuits and individual masks; the pageantry covered every possible nightmare. But even without the tragedy, addictions, and betrayals, something about Slipknot seemed unstoppable. At the height of their powers, Slipknot achieve a violent synchronicity of its elements, like wolves on a hunt — in that respect, WANYK is the sound of a wooly mammoth being torn apart. After the interview, I head to the packed,16,capacity amphitheater to watch Slipknot perform. Taylor has changed from the black fedora and shirt he wore during our conversation into his uniform: a psychedelic black-and-white checkered trenchcoat and pants, with a mask designed by horror legend Tom Savini. In person, it is deeply unsettling. With each member of the band performing like they are the only one on stage — scratching and clawing at their masks or stroking them like beards — the line between persona and performer disappears.

On "All Out Life," the new single from Slipknot, the Iowa band are clearly aiming to demolish standard expectations for a comeback. The band's last album. Slipknot aren't interested in outreach, or changing their formula, just refining it. Taylor is more direct than usual, perhaps a result of the Code Orange collab: "Old does not mean dead, new does not mean best," he insists on the catchy hook in his iconic growl. Cynics could peg the lyrics as a desperate grab for relevance, but that would ignore the song's quality, not to mention the timeliness of its release, when patent mediocrity or worse controls the reins of power just about everywhere.

At the risk of overloading this post, I'm going to copy and paste here, a Reddit comment that I made in this exmo sub the other day. The church will be in your bedroom, finances, and all your decisions. The important part of finding a partner to marry does not, in my opinion, revolve around whether or not you are of the same religion. Whether you like it or not, you are both married to medicine. You can have all the time in the world and not be committed.
